    They Tried to Defeat Her

She moved to a small town in the outskirts of Portland. She really loved where she had lived in the south but her family was back this way and she wanted to see all the kids and grandkids grow up. She had a great life where she had been and hoped for the same here. Excited to build a home with her husband back in the NW, they found a home on 5 acres out in the woods. It was a rough home. It needed a lot of work and remodeling but it was livable and they would make do. Only a year after living there it turned into hell.…

    Making Her Happy

He could do nothing to please her. Whatever he said, whatever he did, it just wasn’t good enough. She always wanted more. Always wanting better.  He ran everything through his mind over and over about what he could be doing wrong. What did he need to do to make it right? How could he get her to be happy and satisfied with him? What did he need to do? He beat himself up over what a mess-up he was. He couldn’t seem to do anything right. What was his problem?  As he watched her come into the room, she was complaining of her friend. The stupid guy her friend was…

    Leave the Shadows

She turned quickly to see a translucent shadow behind her. It didn’t move in any direction but rather floated in the same space. It had no definition. There was no face or body to it. It was nothing. But it was everything. What was it? What did it want? Why was it behind her?  She turned away to run forward into the light of the day. She wanted to leave this dark shadow behind and the fear and negativity it was trying to attach to her. She felt the urgency to get away and free herself from this darkness behind her. Looming. Casting fragments of dread.  She turned toward the…

It’s Ok To Be A STEP! ~ My Opinion

It seems as if step parents get shamed for being a STEP parent. They are to be a parent. Not a step, not a bonus, but a parent. There are so many memes and pictures that say things like; we aren’t step, we are family. Or He’s not my step son, he’s my son. I’m not a step mom, I’m just the mom that stepped up! All of this is great! We should love and embrace each other and just be family. When we marry the adult, we marry the children too. But not all families need to be this way and that’s OK! Yes, there are families that accept…

    Celebrate Life As It Is….

It’s so hard to find joy or happiness when life is weighing you down. Especially during the holidays. Quite often, and more so now, we hear how everything is so messed up. Life just needs to get back to normal. Life is so unfair. Let me ask you this, life is unfair compared to what?  Life is life. You are going to have great times and you will suffer through your hardest days. You will be happy and celebrating good moments and there will be times you hate everything around you. You will feel peace and love throughout your life but you will also feel pain and hurt. It’s life.…

Life Goes On ~ My Opinion

So much going on. The world feels like it’s falling apart. Everything is out of sorts. People are stressed, anxiety is high, and others just don’t care which makes others even more mad. Stop! Take a deep breath. Exhale all of that emotion. No matter what we go through, life goes on. We can lose our job, our house, or a precious loved one and life will go on. We can be physically ill, emotionally collapsing, or fighting another battle and life will go on. It’s not going to stop for you or anyone. So, YOU need to stop. You need to regroup, rejuvenate, and you need to continue to…

Changes Needed in Society ~ My Opinion

Our grandparents and great grandparents saw changes in society from not having cars or power to having cable and computers. Parents that had no cell phones and only five channels on the television to now kids watching tv with no wires and playing movies from apps. Change. It’s happening everyday. We are taking DNA tests for our heritage and solving crimes. Smoking is bad and pot is good. The changes are happening fast and furious. Upgrade every year or two or you are left behind in the technical world. Some changes needing to take place are still challenging. Race, sexuality, and political division are still causing uproar and debate. It…

Minimalist or Knickknacks ~ My Opinion

Fads come and go. Decorating is one of them. People pushing their thoughts on design is at a high. The feedback can be brutal. I have seen posts on Facebook pages of people asking for suggestions on a picture and someone will blast them on the entire room. Change your paint, put in new floors, you need new furniture, etc. Some can be relentless. Who would think that decorating your home could lead to name calling, belittling comments, and humiliation? It’s unbelievable how people feel the need to rip others apart instead of give compassionate criticism and build someone up. It’s so easy to tear others down. I understand people…

Respect Our Veterans ~ My Opinion

Less than ten percent of Americans have ever served in a military position. It’s actually around 7.3%. Currently, 0.4% of Americans are actively serving in some capacity. If you have a room of one hundred people, only 4 are serving. Do you think that’s a lot? Compare that to the 34% that go to college. Four percent is nothing! Military personnel are special, heroic, brave, and truly something to be recognized! This small percentage of Americans have agreed to sacrifice their life to protect you and this country. To fight for your rights of freedom. To fight for your right of free speech. To fight for your right to work,…
